Read a cricket score line: runs, wickets and overs
A cricket score line combines the team's runs, wickets lost and overs bowled. Read all three before comparing two positions in a match.
Decode the notation
In the illustrative line “84/2 after 10.3 overs”, 84 is the run total and 2 is wickets lost. The over notation means ten complete overs and three valid balls in the next over. It is not ten point three decimal overs.

Add innings context
Check which side is batting and whether this is the first innings or a chase. The same total can describe a team setting a target or one approaching a target. Team abbreviations, innings labels and the match date help prevent confusion.
Check the status
A score can remain on screen during a break or after a match ends. Read the status and update time before describing it as live. The example here teaches notation; use the competition's current scorecard for an actual fixture.
